She moans, falls onto her elbows and I go wild. Her pleasure is all I need. I want to enter her while she’s in the throes of ecstasy and pump her until she goes higher beyond that. I want her hooked on my love, to feel and know nothing else but me.

Her nub grows and I smile as she mews. When I insert one finger, she arches, a second one and she screams. At that perfect spot, I press my tongue hard. She breaks apart and shudders, her sweet liquid all over my beard.

I slip her off the edge, her taut nipples in my face. Taking one, I suck hard while her legs wrap around me. I reach down, place my cock at her opening, and with both hands on her waist, pull her down fast and hard.

“Oh, oh, oh.” She pants as I take her mouth, knowing she tastes herself on my lips.

“Ah shit. Just a sec.” Stopping may be one of the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I jump up, grab my pants, find a condom, and rip it open with my teeth.

Her eyes go wide as she watches me roll it over my long length, legs wide, pink flesh swollen.

I swear there’s steam as my heated body reenters the pool in front of her. I press her into the tiles, hold her sweet butt, and wait for her legs to clamp around my waist. Then, I thrust until I reach deep into her womb.

Her head goes back, her eyes close and her mouth drops open. At that exotic vision, my engine revs and I arch up faster until her muscles clench.

  “Cum with me, Lil.”

“I, ah. Oh shit!” Inner walls pulse as she screams and shakes.

I roar, I shout, I bang her hard and my fucking high hits me so hard, the whole pool spins. I swear, if we weren’t attached, I might’ve sunk to the bottom and drowned.

We stay locked to each other for the longest time, the only sound, the occasional gurgle from the filters. Finally, I nuzzle her neck, she moves, and I pull out.

Much later, I put her to bed and check out my security cameras to make sure all my men are ready. I suspect we’re in for an interesting night. Tired, I slide into bed and spoon behind her, pulling her close.

Around two in the morning, I bolt awake to the sound of my house alarm, the same way it chirped the night she came into my life.

Déjà vu. I grab my gun.

“What is it?” She turns and moans, all sleepy and soft.

It actually hurts to remove myself from her and climb out of bed. “I got this. Go to sleep.”

Of course, she doesn’t listen and follows me down the hall to my security room.

“Hey, is that a camera in my kitchen?” From behind, she slides an arm around my waist and I hold it there with my forearm, liking how she feels.

“Uh, yeah.” I focus on the other monitor where two men are entering the carriage house using the front windows I left wide open.

I point out the second monitor from the left. “Dial 911. Tell them someone is breaking into your home.”

  “Oh shit.”

I wait for her to make her call and calmly walk out back. Buddy barks and growls uncharacteristically. With teeth bared, he races into the kitchen. By the time I arrive, he’s got a hold of one of the guy’s legs.

“Help, help. Get him off from me!” A brown-skinned kid, about nineteen, with a bad case of acne, pushes on the pup’s muzzle.

“Down, Buddy.” I call him to me and the smart pup lets go but he’s not done. He jumps onto the kitchen table and takes a flying leap, his front paws on the chest of the other intruder.

Thin, white arms flail for a moment before the other kid falls on his ass.

  “Good job. Sit.”

“Woof.” I swear the dog is grinning as he looks up at me.

Then, he sits and growls, sniffing the face of the one who fell. The two teens are so similar they must be related, maybe cousins.

I grab the gun from the one flat on the floor. I was a bit concerned until I noticed the safety was on. When I check the clip, the gun isn’t loaded, either.

However, mine is and I point it at the one rolling up his jeans, checking the dog’s bite.

“What the hell are you doing here?” I back up into the doorway and lower my weapon.

“Ask him.” Pimple-face, his leg bleeding, tosses his head at the other. “Is that mutt foaming at the mouth? Do I have tetanus?”

The other growls at him as he tries to push Buddy off his chest. “Rabies, you idiot. Tetanus is the shot.”

  “Who got shot?”

“You two, if you don’t shut up. It’s like watching Beavis and Butthead. Sit.” I wave my weapon in the direction of the kitchen chairs.

Buddy looks up at me and pads into the bathroom doorway, more obedient than the other two.

Pimple-face looks at the older one with darker hair. “I told you this place belonged to a Navy Seal.”

“Air Force.” The mistake does nothing to improve my mood nor the fate of these two idiots.

“Whatever.” The kid lowers his lids and glares.

“Damn it. Just explain what you’re doing before I shoot you both.” I point my weapon at one then the other. Shit. Here come the sirens. I wanted some answers before the police arrive.

“A cell phone. We were supposed to get her cell phone.” The older mutters. “Can we go now?”

  “Who hired you?”

“How the hell do I know. That’s part of our business. He hands me a card with a phone number. It reads, We Don’t Ask, We Don’t Tell.

“That’s your slogan?” I stare incredulously.

“It’s good, right?” The older grins, an incisor missing.

I shake my head, wondering if it might be better for all of the future of humanity to get rid of them. God forbid they procreate.

Instead, I put the card on the table. “Were you the ones who lost the hand?”

“We didn’t lose it. That dog grabbed it and ran off.” Pimple-face has no idea he just implicated himself in a murder and I sigh as gravel crunches outside, the police seconds away.

“I have some good news and some bad news. The cops are coming and will take you to jail but whoever you’re working for won’t be able to kill you.”

  “And what’s the bad news?”

“It doesn’t matter.” I hand the two off to the same officers we met in the woods. Somehow, that seems appropriate.

Thankfully, Lilac stays in the main house while I explain what happened.

When I come in, she hugs me. “I am so glad you’re safe.”

I’m a bit hurt that she thinks so little of my skills. “Those guys weren’t much of a challenge.”

She cups my cheeks and stares intently. “Quick. What’s the capital of Arkansas?”

  “Little Rock.”

  “The square root of 144?”

  “Twelve.” I chuckle.

The year Microsoft came out with the first PC?”

“Trick question. It was an IBM computer with Microsoft software. 1985.”

  “Phew.”

I grin and give her a quick kiss. “What was that all about?”

“Just checking. I wanted to make sure whatever they have isn’t catching. My God, I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed such bravery in the face of such stupidity.”

“Not the sharpest tools in the shed.”

“Not the brightest crayons in the box.” She giggles and stops. “In all seriousness, do you think it’s finally over?”

“For them it is. The police will check to see if it was their fingerprints on the shell casings left in the park. I’m sure that’s what they’ll find.”

I don’t tell her my suspicions.

“Jeesh. That wasn’t so smart either. So that’s it? We’re done?”

“Not quite. It will be when they give up where they disposed of the body. The FBI will no doubt contact the CIA to see if it’s the missing arms dealer.”

  “But they won’t tell us?”

“They could tell you but then they’d have to kill you.” He smirks.

  “Not funny.”

“I know, I know. In truth, we may never know.”

  “At
least I’m no longer a suspect. Someday, I’ll pay you for Andy Quinn’s bill, when I get my MD.”

  “How is class coming?”

“I managed to get an A. Can you believe it? Now, all I need to do is start my residency. They want me to start next month.” The way she smiles about her future makes my heart stop.

We haven’t talked about our future and the more we avoid the subject, the harder it becomes to bring it up.

“You’re going to be a great doctor.”

“Thank you. I think so, too.” Her brows crease. “Are you going back to being a bodyguard, to live with Grayson and Isabella?”

“I don’t know yet.” At least I would be in the city, closer to her.

  Chapter 18

  Lilac

I get up the next morning, turn on the local news, and there’s no mention of a murder or a sliced off hand, or even a break in.

Slate rubs his beard, yawns, and I hand him his coffee as he sits on the red stool next to mine. Something’s been eating at me since last night so I ask, “How did those two morons get past your security?”

“I turned it off, of course.” He smirks, yawns, and pulls me into his lap while Buddy nudges at our legs.

“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me.” I’m about to say more but the pup whines and the lecture is put on hold for another time. “Here, Buddy,” I clap my hands. “We need to get changed before we run.”

“Wait for me.” Slate slips off his stool in just his boxers.

“Tag, you’re it.” I dash off with a light skip and a laugh.

His gait is smooth and relaxed when he catches up with us. Shirtless, he looks as if he could run for days, even when we reach the top of the hill. It’s too cool for a dunk in the reservoir so we choose another trail with green markers.

About three miles later, my breath becomes labored. “Okay, Special Ops, I’m done.”

Grinning, he turns toward home and by the time we jog up the drive, even the puppy’s tongue is hanging out.

At the front door, I wheeze and bend at the waist. “Damn. I guess you’re ready to report for duty.”

I try to keep it light but my heart breaks at the thought of these days coming to an end.

His eyes echo my sentiment as he runs an index finger up the inside of my arm, caressing the side of a breast. “Yeah, Grayson is anxious to have me back.”

“How soon?” My palm cups his soft beard.

All sweaty, he smells just wonderful. “Next week, soon.”

Was this just a summer fling? We never said we loved each other. I’m sure we do but he has his life and I have mine. Hell, a resident barely has time to sleep, let along maintain a relationship. Maybe it’s too much to ask for him to wait.

When he pulls me close, I inhale his spicy scent, trying to memorize it forever. My whisper is just loud enough so he can pretend he didn’t hear if he doesn’t feel the same.

“I don’t want this to end.”

“It doesn’t have to end, Lil.” He hugs me tighter, chin resting on top of my head, while hope springs within.

His neck is damp when I clamp my hands behind it and bring his gaze to mine. “I thought… I thought you had to get to work as a live-in bodyguard?”

“I do, but it doesn’t mean we can’t continue to see each other, that is, if you want.” Dark lashes surround his eyes, black centers growing wide.

My pelvis tilts, ready to start what I wanted since we woke up. “I won’t have much time. It can take three years before I have regular hours.”

He moves his mouth to my ear, nibbles on my lobe, and warms it with his breath. “But it’s in the city, right? I’m not some kid. I can wait.”

“I would really like that.” My mouth finds his when I turn my head and I open for his pressing tongue.

We kiss for the longest time, not caring how sweaty and salty we are.

“Just a sec.” He breaks out of my embrace, runs into the house and comes out with a small fuzzy box. “It’s not a ring, not yet. I didn’t want to pressure you. I love you, Lilac Starbird.”

My mouth drops open, and it’s not because of the teardrop ruby with a large diamond or the heavy chain.

It’s those three simple words, that I never thought I would be so happy to hear.

“Oh my God. I love you, too.” I hold up my hair so he can clasp it behind my neck and when I turn, he kisses me long and hard with the promise of many more tomorrows.

He takes my hand, leads me up the porch stairs, then stops. “Shit, just a sec. Let’s go, Buddy.”

The pup looks up from where he was snoozing and pads away to the back yard behind the man who’s stolen my heart. A moment later the man returns without his dog. With one arm behind my knees, the other at my back, he walks me up the stairs and struggles to punch in the lock code.

I laugh, reach across his chest, and turn the handle. Clinging to his shoulders, I hold on for the ride as he dashes past the living room, down the hall, and sets my butt on the cool marble in the bathroom.

“I want to wash you… Everywhere.” His eyes roam up and down my body and when his hands reach for the hem of my tank top, I raise my arms and off it goes.

He steps between my legs, drops his running shorts, and his long, hard cock presses into me. Clever fingers work their way under the band of my bra. Then, he slowly slides the wet fabric over my nipples, takes my breast in his mouth and sucks until it almost hurts.

However, before I can shout out, he licks the pain away and plays with the sensitive nub until it pebbles while pinching and pulling at the other tip.

I need him as high as me so I pull his hair and bring his lips to mine as my left hand wraps around his cock. My thumb plays in the precum at the tip and I squeeze. He moans as his tongue thrusts in and out of my mouth, mimicking his desire.

“Shower. Now.” His attention diverted to the faucet, he adjusts the temperature and little jets stream in every direction.

While he does that, I slide out of my shorts. The warm water along with the lust in his gaze makes me want him all the more. His nostrils flair as he grabs the shower gel and gets it sudsy in his hands.

My mouth goes dry. Then, oh my God, his hands are sliding all over me. Every one of my senses are on fire. I want to do the same to him but every time I reach for him, he slaps me away with a chuckle.

  “Me first. You later.”

I guess that’s fair, but even if it wasn’t, there’s not much I could do. I’m under his spell as his large hands slip over my breasts, caress my neck, and down my back. He squeezes the lobes of my buttocks, gets more gel, and holy shit.

His fingers are in my crack, around my hole, then slowly make their way to my clit. I gasp, my legs shaking.

“Open wider.” He presses me against the wall, left hand holding me up, right thumb between us, pressing my aching need.

Then, he enters and waits for me to adjust to his size. When an inner muscle gives, he grunts and shoves in all the way, his balls at my core.

I rock on his hand, desire crashing though me, while he thrusts his tip so deep I don’t know where he stops and I begin. Knees bent he pulls out and I moan.

He thrusts and I shout, “Oh fuck.”

The rhythm speeds, we get higher, our bodies banging together as we both hold on like our life depended on getting to this other plane of existence.

  “Damn it. Now, Slate. Now.”

He groans, pushes in even more, my clit aching for the last touch that will take it off the precipice.

I am so close that I’m begging and panting. My palms on either side of his soft cheeks, I bite down on his lower lip. His cock swells inside me and hits the perfect spot.

“Slate!” An orgasm of cataclysmic proportions bursts, exciting every cell in my body.

He goes crazy, pushing, thrusting, and banging as my clit pulses. All his muscles tense, he holds his breath, and then he shouts, juices flowing. His high makes mine go off again. I’ve won the Guinness World record for longest orgasm in h
istory.

He feels it and moans. When his hands let go, my feet touch the tiles.

  “Un-fucking-believable.”

We both stare, a bit in shock, as warm water sprays over us.

He pulls out, ties off the condom, and tosses it into the basket. As I just sort of watch, brain dead from the hottest sex on the face of the planet.

  “I can’t move.”

Hands on my waist, he puts me on the marble and dries me, taking extra care around my nipples and my clit. Then, the world goes upside down as he carries me over his shoulder and drops me on his bed.

He jumps in next to me. “Sleepy?”

His index finger slowly lowers to between my legs and swirls in my juices. I open wider, he puts his legs between mine, and in moments, we’re at it again.

  Chapter 19

  Lilac ~ Two Weeks Later

I swear, we’ve made love on every surface in Slate’s house. I laugh, both exhausted and sore as I exit the shower.

“I need to get dressed, get into the city, and sign my lease.”

“Just let me know and I’ll come by to install new locks.” His frown says he’s still not convinced it’s a good area to live in but it’s within walking distance of the hospital and affordable.

“You just want to spy on me.” I giggle, not wanting to argue on this, our last day.

The tops of his cheeks turn red above his beard. “True, but not like that. I know the neighborhood, it’s not safe.”

“I got my mace gun.” I waggle my brows and he rolls his eyes.

“How could I forget?” He slaps my ass with a towel and slips on his boxers. “Tell you what, I’ll drop you off. I should go in, too.”

I pick out a short cotton dress and sandals for the heat. Slate dresses in a crisp, long-sleeved white shirt and dark tie. His gun and holster create a slight bulge under his navy jacket.

“I guess you’re going to work?” I kiss his cheek and stand close while he sits on his bed and ties his shoes.

“Grayson has a meeting with a few businessmen he doesn’t trust all that much so I said I’d cover.”
